Georgia introduced a new law called Joshua’s Law on January 1, 2007 effecting teen drivers. This law states that any teen under the age of seventeen must complete a state approved Georgia driver education course in order to obtain a driver’s license. In the state of Georgia, a number of schools now offer this course as a part of the curriculum. Several schools however, have yet to make this class available as a part of their traditional schedule. In addition, countless students get home school education which makes it hard for them to attend a school that offers this course. A great alternative for those home school teens and those who don’t go to a school that offer driver education is taking this course online.
A state approved online Georgia driver education course meets all the guidelines set forth in the new Joshua’s Law. Parents can enroll their kids into this online class and the teens can take the classroom section of this course in the comforts of their own home. This allows the teens to work at their own pace while giving them a better chance to fully comprehend the course’s criteria. Once completing the online driver education course, the teen will then receive a certificate of completion. They can then go to the local DDS office and show them proof that they have passed this course.
A good thing for parents is it enables them to be involved in the entire process of their child’s learning how to drive when they take the online course. Parents are still required to spend a certain amount of time in the passenger’s seat while their teen is behind the wheel driving on the streets.
